Abdominoplasty
Restores the shape and muscle firmness of the abdomen and reduces the waist
What is it?
The purpose of this surgical procedure is to restore the shape and muscular firmness of the abdomen, reduce the waist, recreate the midline of youth and rejuvenate the umbilical scar.
Aging, weight fluctuations, genetics, and previous pregnancies can all contribute to an abdominal appearance that is less than ideal. Even people at their target weight can have problems with sagging belly skin and stubborn fat deposits. Many patients are unable to achieve the toned tummy they desire through diet and exercise alone despite vigorous and dedicated efforts.
Candidates
It is indicated for people who, due to pregnancy, large tumors or significant weight loss, have abdominal flaccidity with excess skin and fat.
It is also recommended for people with scars and stretch marks in the lower abdomen, in cases of flaccidity or significant separation of the abdominal muscles or in any combination of the above, preferably in patients who no longer plan to have more pregnancies.
Post-surgery
- The surgery is performed under regional anesthesia.
- The procedure lasts between 2 to 3 hours.
- An incision is made at the level of the pubis horizontally, the duration of the surgery depends on the excess amount of skin and fat.
- The operated person must spend one night in the hospital under post-surgical medical observation.
- In this type of surgery, drains are placed to avoid the accumulation of liquids; drains are removed in 3-5 days on average.
- The use of special compression garments is necessary to help a speedy recovery.
Abdominoplasty Options
Depending on the degree of correction required, tummy tuck surgery can take between two and four hours. During the procedure, the tissues of the abdomen are adjusted through a horizontal incision along the lower abdomen. The shape and length of the incision will depend on the amount of excess tissue to be removed.
Mini tummy tuck. The incision created during mini tummy tuck surgery is placed below the bikini line. Through this opening, excess skin can be removed and the lower abdominal muscles can be repaired. This technique is appropriate for patients with minimal cosmetic concerns who fall below the navel.
Complete abdominoplasty. A full tummy tuck involves creating an incision that extends from hip to hip. Through this incision, excess tissue can be removed and muscles can be repaired. A secondary incision around the navel may be necessary to achieve optimal results. This technique is appropriate for patients with moderate to severe skin weakness and muscle weakness.
Extended tummy tuck. An extended tummy tuck is a more comprehensive approach to abdominal enhancement. The incision created during this procedure runs from the side of one thigh, around the hip and along the bikini line, and around the other thigh. This technique is appropriate for patients who want to improve their hips and thighs, as well as their abdomen.
Circumferential abdominoplasty. As the name suggests, a circumferential tummy tuck involves the creation of an incision that surrounds the entire midsection, through which excess tissue can be removed. Circumferential tummy tuck surgery, also known as a «body lift,» improves the appearance of the entire silhouette, including the buttocks, hips, abdomen, and back. This technique is appropriate for patients who have experienced significant weight loss that has resulted in severe skin laxity and folds of excess fat.
